How Cogito handles website, download, and support-related information during the public beta.
Last updated March 26, 2026
Overview
Cogito is a small, public-beta macOS app and website. This Privacy Policy explains what information we may collect through the website, downloads, release notes, updates, and support communications, and how we use it.
We only collect information through the website and related support communications. The app itself does not collect, transmit, or send your notes, file paths, preferences, or other app data to us.
What Stays On Your Device
Cogito reads and writes files and folders that you choose to open on your own Mac. It also stores local app state on your device so it can restore windows, remember Locations, and keep preferences between launches.
- The contents of files you open or edit in Cogito
- File and folder paths you choose to add as Locations
- Local app state such as preferences, bookmarks, and window or browser state stored on your device
That local app data stays on your device unless you choose to share something with us separately, such as by emailing support.
Information We Collect Through The Website
- Website and infrastructure data, such as IP address, browser or device information, request headers, referring pages, and basic server or CDN logs generated when you visit the site or download files.
- Information you choose to send us, such as your name, email address, message contents, attachments, screenshots, sample files, or other material when you contact support at hey@fabrizio.so.
- Operational information related to downloads and update delivery, such as which public files were requested, approximate timestamps, and basic request diagnostics needed to keep the site and downloads working.
- Anonymous, aggregated website analytics data collected through Vercel Web Analytics, such as page views, referrers, browser type, operating system, and device type. This data does not identify individual visitors and is not linked to personal information.
How We Use Information
- To operate, secure, and improve the website, downloads, release notes, and update infrastructure.
- To respond to support requests, bug reports, and feedback.
- To investigate abuse, fraud, security incidents, crashes, broken downloads, and reliability issues.
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
What We Do Not Intentionally Collect
The website is not built around user accounts, subscriptions, or online note storage. We do not require you to upload notes to use the public beta.
The current beta does not include hosted accounts, cloud sync, in-app analytics, crash-reporting SDKs, or any other in-app data collection sent to us. The website uses privacy-friendly, cookie-free analytics provided by Vercel (see Cookies And Similar Technologies below).
If you voluntarily send us files, screenshots, crash details, or sample notes for support or debugging, we may receive and review whatever you choose to include.
Sharing
We may share information with service providers who help us operate the website and support channels, such as hosting, infrastructure, email, and delivery providers. We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect rights or safety, investigate abuse, or as part of a reorganization, sale, or transfer of the project.
We do not sell your personal information.
Retention
We keep information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including operating the site, handling support, maintaining security, resolving disputes, and meeting legal obligations.
Your Choices
You can choose not to contact us or send attachments. If you want us to delete a support email or attachment you previously sent, contact hey@fabrizio.so and we will review the request subject to any legal or operational need to retain it.
Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, delete, or object to certain processing of your personal information.
Cookies And Similar Technologies
This site uses limited browser storage for basic functionality, such as remembering your theme preference. We use Vercel Web Analytics to collect anonymous, aggregated page-view and visitor data (such as page URL, referrer, browser, operating system, and device type). Vercel Analytics does not use cookies, does not track individual users across sites, and does not collect personal information. No advertising pixels or marketing trackers are used on this site.
Children
The site and beta app are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through the website.
Changes And Contact
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make a material change, we will post the updated version here with a new “Last updated” date. Questions can be sent to hey@fabrizio.so.
